Market Your MLM Only To People Who Are Looking

The reason most people fail in MLM and Network Marketing is because MLM companies are teaching everyone who joins to accomplish nearly impossible feats. Allow me to explain…
Let’s say, for example, your MLM company sells Coke. As a distributor of Coke, your MLM company and your upline are going to tell you to do things like:
* Make a list of 50 to 100 people in your “warm market” (ie: family, friends, co-workers, etc.)
* Do 3-way calls with your upline
* Talk to everyone that comes within 3 feet of you (the famous “3-foot rule”)
* Conduct “home parties” and drag people to MLM hotel meetings.
* Hand out 1000’s of fliers, brochures, CD’s and DVD’s
…etc, etc…
Basically, your MLM company wants you to talk to the people you already know (or everyone you come in contact with), have them watch a DVD or read a brochure, get them on the phone with your upline, and attend a demonstration of some kind, either at your home or a local hotel meeting. (I know, nothing new here. Stay with me.)
The purpose of all this activity is to convince people that they should all drink your Coke and join you in convincing everyone else to drink Coke.
I get e-mails all the time with people asking, “How do I convince people to join my XYZ MLM company?”
So many people don’t realize the main problem is actually so simple that it’s slapping them in the face… you cannot ever ‘CONVINCE’ anyone to do anything they don’t already want to do. It’s nearly impossible. I defy anyone to convince a die-hard vegetarian to order (and eat) a 16oz rib-eye steak. Good luck with that. It’s a nearly impossible feat.
Why would anyone even try to do this? It’s insane.
You could try talking to 100’s of vegetarians, and maybe you’d get one once in a while, and then everyone would be asking people like me, “How do I convince vegetarians to try my steak? What do I say to them?” Then, you’d see a ton of web sites bashing these crazy meat sales companies that are trying to sell to vegetarians and saying all meat salespeople are freaks. Hmmm. Nah… probably not.
And, yet, that’s exactly what just about every MLM company is teaching their distributors do: They want you to go out and convince all the Pepsi drinkers, the Gatorade drinkers, the 7-up drinkers, the coffee drinkers to drink Coke.
What’s worse, these MLM companies don’t even teach you how to discover what your prospect is currently drinking, let alone if they even so much as have an interest in your Coke. They just tell you to relentlessly shove it into everyone’s face.
Why in the world would you waste your time talking to someone who has no interest in what you’ve got, whether it’s a nutritional product, or a business opportunity, or a 52″ flatscreen?
Why would a butcher waste one second with a vegetarian when there are so many steak-lovers out there?
If you take anything away from here, it should be this:
We, as consumers, LOVE to buy! But, we absolutely hate to be sold.
So, to become successful in MLM and network marketing, you must first find out if your prospect even has a need, want, or desire for what you’re offering. Just help them get what they’re already looking for and they’ll buy it, but don’t try to convince them that they need it more than they think they need or want it.
If they don’t have a need or want… next!
Now, granted, you might talk to 100 people saying, “Hey, do you eat steak? Hi, do YOU like steak?” and they may all say, “No.” But, isn’t that so much more efficient than spending and hour or two or three, giving your full pitch trying to convince them and have them still say ‘No’ anyway?
Of course it is. You can talk to 10 or 20 times as many people doing it this way.
Remember -MLM is just a numbers game. And, when I say ‘numbers,’ I don’t mean “try to talk to at least 10 people this week.”
The trick is to run through large numbers of people in a short time. You’ve got to talk to 100 people a week -maybe even 200.
Spending just a couple seconds per person will help you accomplish these kind of numbers so you can more quickly find the people who will automatically say, “Actually, yes, I am very interested in that. Tell me more.”
Not to mention you won’t join the “NFL” club doing it this way because you’ve properly qualified people – it shows you respect them. (NFL = No Friends Left)
You have my word and promise that there are millions and millions of people out there who are actively looking for the benefit of whatever MLM product or service your MLM company offers and there are lots of great MLM companies.
But, they’ll never find you if you’re wasting your time with all the wrong people who aren’t intested in the first place. (Google: ‘Law of Attraction’)
It’s never about you. It’s about them. You must completely remove your needs out of your head – permanently.
For example, if your MLM company offers nutritional products, look for people who are “actively looking” to become more healthy. Never talk to people who aren’t already looking to become more healthy – they aren’t interested.
Doesn’t it make sense that it would be so much easier to recruit someone who already wants to be more healthy, instead of spending hours and hours chasing people down to try to convce them they should start being more healthy?
Not to mention, they’ll probably be a long-life consumer, too.
Leave the overweight bon-bons and beer guzzler on the couch with his remote control. He doesn’t think he has a problem, and he doesn’t have a desire for the benefit of what you have to offer (better health). So, stop trying to convince him.
Remember, it’s not about you.
Another example, if your MLM company offers legal services, find people who are worried about legal issues or have legal concerns (there’s millions of them out there in today’s world. No, really). Don’t waste your time trying to convince people who could care leass about their legal issues.
Am I making any sense? If your MLM is selling Coke, then you should be actively looking for thousands of people who are already looking for Coke products, can afford Coke, and are thirsty for Coke.
I promise you… there are millions of thirsty consumers out there who love and want the benefits of drinking Coke. But, please… leave your friends and family alone.
They all drink Pepsi.

Does Internet Marketing Replace Traditional MLM Strategies?

For many distributors struggling to turn a profit in their MLM business, learning internet marketing strategies, tools and tactics can be the difference between realizing all of their goals & dreams that this industry promises and becoming just another casualty that tried MLM before but failed to become successful.

Unfortunately there are several trainers out there on the internet that advocate abandoning the time proven strategies taught by MLM companies in favor of internet marketing strategies.

Typically, the trainer shares a story about how they struggled in MLM before learning these internet marketing techniques and then after applying these techniques, their income exploded. They also talk about how traditional MLM strategies didn’t work for them and this is why the student needs to use internet marketing.

Trainers that advocate this approach fail to understand the ultimate goal in MLM.

MLM is not about you being the best recruiter or the best person at signing up customers. MLM is about you doing a few basic simple concepts and you teaching your team how to do a few basic simple concepts until it duplicates down through your organization and the business begins to grow without your involvement.

The challenge is sticking around long enough until those people that are willing to do these few basic things are discovered and the organization is able to take off without your involvement.

The other challenge is that there is no way of knowing whether someone you recruit is going to be one of those people that are willing to do those few basic things. There is especially no way of knowing whether the person you recruit will eventually lead you to the person that is willing to do those few basic things.

As a result, when these trainers advocate only using internet marketing strategies, they in effect handicap a MLM distributor’s ability to find those key individuals faster by limiting that distributor to one source of prospecting, that being internet marketing. The fact of the matter is that some of the best distributors in your organization may very well be people that you already know, people that they know or people that you meet when going through your daily routine.

The other downside to advocating only internet marketing strategies is that you handicap the growth of your organization by making a very dangerous assumption. Just because a prospect comes from an online source does not mean that when the prospect becomes a distributor he or she will thrive using an internet marketing approach.

The prospect that you recruited may have a very strong warm market that he or she has great influence over and is highly respected in that warm market.

However, that prospect may only be barely competent in the internet, having the ability to navigate web sites and check email, but not much else. As a result, now instead of having a distributor that could be a six figure income organization for you, by requiring only internet marketing, that distributor now becomes another distributor that quits in 90 days.

Because of this, I NEVER advocate only using internet marketing strategies to build a MLM business.

The key to success is to be familiar with ALL strategies, YOU use the strategy that works best for YOU and you work with your team to help them discover the strategy that works best for them!

Some distributors in your organization will do very well with internet marketing strategies. Other distributors will be able to master the warm market and referral process. Other distributors will do well by calling business opportunity leads. Still other distributors will be a master of the conversation and can spark conversations with people throughout the course of their daily activity to build their business successfully.

Internet marketing does NOT replace traditional MLM strategies. It simply complements traditional MLM strategies. Know that and apply that, and you will be well on the road to building a long term successful business!

What I Learned From My Mlm Training

If you are also struggling with your mlm business and thinking that there must be a better way, I wrote this article just for you. It does not matter if you are an mlm consultant with Quixtar, Herbalife, Amway or any other top network marketing company. This article is for you.
The mlm training showed me that everything we have been taught about building a network marketing business is wrong. I had to clear my mind of the lies that I have been told. Lies such as:
1. Everyone qualifies as my prospects. Therefore, everyone wants this. They just do not know it yet.
2. We are not really selling products. We are simply sharing.
3. Network marketing is easy. Anyone can do this business.
4. No selling or recruiting is needed. We will build your business for you.
5. Our products are the best on the market. Everyone will want them.
6. You do not have enough belief. You got to fake it to make it.
7. Trust in the proven system. It works. Do not try to recreate it.
These lies will continuously have you spending time and money chasing prospects who are not interested in your mlm opportunity plus giving products away. Eventually you will find yourself losing more than you are gaining.
Can you relate? I am sure most of you can.
At this point you can either fake it to make it, or, try something new. I was ready to try new network marketing strategies. This is where I began implementing new tactics in my mlm business.
My mlm training taught me that business systems are more important than my products. I learned that business systems work 24/7, are a great source of leverage and are very important in achieving mlm success. I recommend to all my prospects who are interested in network marketing to develop systems in their mlm business.
After learning about systems, I was taught that communication is the next priority. By communication I mean mlm marketing. Every business, whether traditional or network marketing, should use proper marketing strategies.
Mlm marketing strategies are used to attract prospects to our network marketing business. Being professional helps a lot in mlm lead generation. Prospects search you out instead of you looking for them.
One way of being a professional is by using informational marketing. By delivering helpful and useful information to your target market, they will come back to you for more. Then soon they will want to join your network marketing business with less resistance.
Would this make life in network marketing easier? Of course it will. Prospects coming to you instead of you going out there thinking multi level marketing is for everyone and ending up facing rejection and embarrassment. You will save a lot of time and money by being a professional mlm consultant.
At this point my regular mlm training comes in. I still do follow ups but there is a big difference. My prospects are already sold to the idea of network marketing and are mainly interested in the compensation plan. Therefore, I believe that I am well on my way to mlm success.
If you are struggling with your network marketing business, I am advising you to never give up. Try learning new strategies and theories. Start by reading self development books. Good luck.

MLM Training: How to Generate Your Own Qualified Prospects With 10 Proven Newspaper Ads

The worst thing you can ever do in your MLM business career is to think, ponder, worry or even get the idea that it’s unprofessional to promote! Here are some MLM training strategies for generating your own MLM leads, even if you’re on a tight budget.

Prospects are basically the foundation of any business, as they are the potential customers to the business. So just how do YOU find MLM prospects?Let’s start out with a definition of the word promote, which is the most important word in finding prospects for your MLM business. The word promote means: to make known.I was recently doing some MLM training with a person in my downline. She needed some help with her business, which was not growing. As I asked various questions I finally found the “nasty bug” that was stopping her network marketing business from moving forward. She didn’t want to come off as being or sounding sales-y. This stopped her from promoting.HOW DOES EVERYONE ELSE PROMOTE?A politician promotes how he/she can make a whole community’s life better; so he’s/she’s making herself known to the public by promoting and making known to as many people as possible what he/she can do for them. If you’ve noticed, politicians promote on TV, radio, signs stuck in the grass or on telephone poles along a busy street or maybe speaking at various group meetings.A college promotes what courses it offers. It might promote on radio, might promote to high schools or through sporting events. A stockbroker promotes that he can help his/her prospect make money. A local restaurant will promote via radio, or mailing brochures or discount coupons.THE WORST THING YOU CAN EVER DO IN YOUR MLM BUSINESS CAREER IS TO THINK, PONDER, WORRY OR EVEN GET THE IDEA THAT IT’S UNPROFESSIONAL TO PROMOTE!You really need to know and understand promotion. The only way you can have prospects, therefore customers or distributors, is to promote. The only way for you to make money in network marketing is to promote. You can write down your dreams and goals and study them every night, but you’re as effective as a billboard in the middle of the desert. No one knows you exist until you make yourself known. So if you ever find yourself where your business isn’t growing or you don’t have enough prospects, enough customers, or enough distributors, what do you do? Promote! WHY DO YOU PROMOTE? The reason you promote is to create desire for your product. If you don’t create a desire for your product, it’s very difficult to achieve MLM success. How would you know that someone desires your product or business? Well certainly if you sent a postcard and someone called the number, that’s someone showing desire in your MLM Business. Even if a person called and asked, “How much is this,” it would still be someone showing desire or at least slight interest. If you called a friend and asked them to look at something and they said, “Send it to me,” that’s showing a desire. People sometimes refer to desire as “responses,” as in, someone responded to my promotion.DIFFERENT TYPES OF PROMOTIONSo now let’s talk about different types of promotion that create desire. You could promote your MLM Business in:1. The Help Wanted, the Sales and Marketing or the Business Opportunity sections of a newspaper.2. Advertising section of magazines. 3. Direct mail, such as sending out postcards to everyone in your zip code.4. Door hangers. 5. Emails and banner ads on the internet.6.  Networking. I’m sure you could have guessed that I would name that one. But you would be surprised at how many people, when mentioning all the ways to promote, miss that one. In fact, if you use traditional promotion with the mindset of just finding a network of people to work , you will fare far better than most who only measure their responses with how many people respond to their advertisement. You can turn one response from a promotion into thousands if you properly network. One other place to find prospects for your business is to promote to MLM leads that you purchase from a lead company. The advantage of this is you’re only paying for those who’ve responded and you’re not paying for all the people who didn’t respond. If I send out 10,000 postcards and get 20 responses, then I paid for 9,980 post cards that didn’t get a response. The advantage of writing your own ads of course is being able to target your specific audience with your specific product or opportunity message, which is VERY important and should not be underestimated. In contrast, when you buy leads, you’re buying general ads; perhaps people who’ve responded to wanting a home-based business. The other downside to buying leads is that very often, lead companies resell their leads to more than just you; so you’ve got extra competition to deal with.THREE BROAD WAYS TO PROMOTENow it probably sounded like I just contradicted myself; I didn’t. I just saved you years of running in circles trying to figure out the advantages and the disadvantages to generating your own leads or buying leads. This is the game. You must promote. There are three broad ways to promote.1. Networking: this costs the least. You’re going to have the costs of meals with prospects and the costs of joining clubs/associations. So I have rock climbing club fees, I have mountain climbing association fees, horseback riding fees, mountain biking fees; these are like $50-$100 dollars a year. 2. Buying leads: this is more expensive than networking, but less expensive than generating your own. It has some advantages and disadvantages: sometimes you get some hot leads; sometimes, you swear you’re calling a graveyard. 3. Generating your own: this is the most expensive, but has the advantages of targeting your prospects. Here’s a list of advertisements that I’ve run to promote my own MLM business opportunity:* Some people earn Ten thousand dollars a year. And some people earn One million in the same year. Click here to see difference. * Need more money; NOW! * Does it ever break your heart to leave your kids at daycare? * Looking for a FUN business? * Go to the golf course when it’s not crowded. * The truth about making money. A lot of it. * WEALTH FORMULA. Click here (banner ads) * Wealth formula that takes a lot of effort – but retires you in 4 years. * Extremely well paying position available to right person. Must have sales & marketing experience. Sales training a big plus. * Immediate Need for Effective Sales Person. Unlimited earning and growth potential. Self-starter, sales writing skills and team player will be keys to success in this growing, hightech organization. Will be responsible for generating sales leads, preparing and giving presentations on company products and training sales team for (enter your business type. Example: fitness, high-tech or health, etc.) development company. Great benefits. Great FUN TEAM! Fax resume to: BE “IN” BUSINESSThe bottom line is you must be using at least one of these three methods to achieve MLM success. If you’re not, you’re not in business; you’re out of business. What you should be doing, if you see the big picture and want the very big income, is you need to be doing all three. All the time. Ideally you’d start out by networking, which will create enough money to buy MLM leads, then you’ll generate enough money from the leads you purchased to generate your own leads. My point is, as soon as you start making any money, reinvest it in promotion. One other MLM training tip: don’t measure your success by just your immediate responses. Any marketer who is of any value knows that how you measure return on promotion investment is based on the “life of the customer;” NOT immediate return. Get one leader from a MONTH or 6-MONTHS of promotion and it can pay you for the rest of your life. People often ask me, how much money did you make your first year in network marketing and I tell them, “I don’t know, I’m still earning it.”Much respect and admiration,Tim Sales

MLM Training – How to Keep Your Downline Interested, Focused and Productive

This MLM training bulletin is about how you as a leader can add incentives so your network marketing downline will produce more.

What I’m going to share with you here DOES NOT REPLACE what you can read in “Nine Proven Actions to Get Your Downline Producing More,” an article that discusses the importance of a well trained MLM distributor. Proven MLM training is the backbone of motivation. Nothing motivates a person more than fully knowing what to say on the phone, how to say it, and having confidence that they can do that.

So in conjunction with a well-trained MLM downline, here’s how I recommend you use incentives to grow your network marketing business. Adding incentives can be thought of as games you can play to keep your MLM business fun and in the spirit of play. I’m talking about dynamic, exciting incentives to increase your MLM downline’s enthusiasm, and make them excited and looking forward to doing the business. And in turn, have that enthusiasm translate into products sold and new distributors signed up. This also creates a fun culture around your network marketing organization.

As hard as it may be to believe on the surface, it is widely acknowledged that distributor recognition is as effective a motivator as an increase of income.

Recognition raises self-esteem. It shows your distributors that you care about them, and you value and appreciate the effort that they put forth. You can’t put a price tag on that. And once they know that you care about them BY YOUR ACTIONS, they will show you something you may not have thought possible. They will give you their best performance ever.

What you’re trying to achieve with incentive programs is an increase of performance. The two important factors are:
a) What performance to reward

b) What to reward achievers

What performances to reward in your MLM business:

What to reward achievers:

Points that can hurt your program…and your MLM income:

Let’s say we’re going to do a “School’s Out” Game that ends on June 1st. The winner gets a trip for four people to Disneyland for four days. March, April and May are the performance months. The winner is leaving as soon as school’s out! This gets kids involved as well. We start promoting the program February 15th. Awards ceremony will be at a BBQ outing on June 1st where all family members are invited. At this event we will also announce the next program…”Back to School” Game.

As you can see this creates a wonderful unity between everyone within your MLM organization as well as a fun culture.

Enjoy your MLM business!
